In 2018, after a series of tough moments, I decided—on the Monday after Thanksgiving (first picture)—that I was going to take back control of my health. I looked at myself and didn’t recognize who I had become. Physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally, I felt drained. With Christmas and my birthday approaching, I knew temptation was everywhere, but I made a decision: no more excuses. I was determined to rebuild my health through the trenches of cake, parties, and big meals.
Every month I weighed in, tracked my measurements, and leaned on a small accountability group. That community was everything. We pushed, encouraged, and supported one another daily. During that season, my mindset shifted. I stopped letting life dictate my health and instead made my health the priority. My schedule revolved around the gym, not the other way around.
Fast forward to 2020. I faced a new challenge. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. That diagnosis forced me to put my nutrition knowledge into action for myself. This was no longer just about weight loss; it became a lifestyle change, a fight for my life. I made a promise not to depend on excuses or medication as my only solution. I reminded myself daily: This is my journey, and it doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. There would be setbacks and victories, but consistency was non-negotiable.
